The MAL launched its artist residency series in 2013, thanks to the hard work and inventiveness of Mél Hogan. While MAL artist residencies have consistently continued since then, other MAL projects have significantly expanded to now include teaching experiments, a publication series of technical reports called “MALware,” an event series called “MALfunction,” as well as exhibits. Since the MAL is valuable for its collection of still-functioning media that are meant to be played with, opened up, and tinkered with, our hope is that these residencies and projects will establish the MAL as a flexible, porous, non-hierarchical space for hands-on technical experiments of all kinds. If you are interested in participating in an artist residency at the MAL, please contact us.
